Microsoft Project Natal

Microsoft today introduced Project Natal, a method for interacting with games, controller free.
The software giant unveiled the project at a packed out press event for this years E3 gaming expo in Los Angeles, California. The ground breaking technology was introduced by both Stephen Spielberg and gaming legend Peter Molyneux. Both believe the technology has the power to turn games into a true mass entertainment medium. Spielberg said "This is a pivotal moment that will carry with it a wave of change, the ripples of which will reach far beyond video games".
The technology behind Natal is fairly simple, a TV-mounted camera/microphone bar to sense motion, sound and movement. What's new and ground breaking is the tracking of 3D movement as well as 2D movement. The system is also able to scan users faces and sign them into Xbox live, as well as react to vocal tone and pitch, and process this data in real-time. The key to the system is accuracy and during one of the demos the presenter managed to move an avatar in a rather bizarre and un-human like fashion:Regardless of the flaw in the demo, the technology looks promising and will allow users to interact with the Xbox menu systems, avatars and games specifically designed for the upcoming unit. Microsoft confirmed Natal, which has no official name, release date or price, will also work with existing Xbox 360 consoles as well as all future models.

DIY Pulse Laser Gun

This Pulse Laser Gun may look like it is from the future, but believe me, it was just recently made.

The gun was a DIY project that has a small pulse laser head and generates a kW-pulse of infrared light. There is a video below of it shooting a balloon, but it can blast through plastic, razorblade, and even 5mm of Styrofoam. It has a range a 3 meters, and the gun itself is 320mm long and weighs at 2 pounds.Just be warned, there isn’t any sound at the beginning of the video, but it kicks in later. Too bad there isn’t any laser pewpew sound. To make up for sound is the sight of this blue lights to create a real science fiction look. The video says that it is battery powered, and it is good for about 50 shots. For obvious reasons, safety glasses are required at all times.According to the video, it sounds as if the creator has sold this gun. Hopefully it came with a matching holster. However, it sounds like he or she wants to make more. This looks like you would have to have a license to carry one of these, or a Stromtrooper or

We have reported on a lot of interesting Power Loader suits before, you know, like the type that were used in Aliens. I still can’t figure out how they did that effect without computer generated effects.
I believe that the reason for creating exo-suits is so that you can lift really heavy objects, but the Skeletonics exoskeleton just seems to be made so you can walk around in an exo-suit. I mean, who wouldn’t want that?
I definitely think that as far as speed goes, this Skeletonics exoskeleton is for you. You can watch the video after the jump if you want to see a man-robot run. Man, I hope he doesn’t trip.
This Skeletonics exoskeleton is also good if you want to flick an empty soda can. There seems to be this option of launching some sort of rocket as well. Clearly, this man was inspired by Aliens, because I remember the Power Loader had a weapon. Actually, it was a blowtorch, and I couldn’t figure out why a Power Loader would have a blowtorch on it.
Well, I see another difference between this apparatus and the Power Loader from

Parrot Digital Photoframe

Okay so let’s face it, a digital frame, is a digital frame, is a digital frame, and as you get your 3rd one, as a gift from your soon to be ex-boyfriend, you wonder why the screensaver slideshow on your computer wasn’t already good enough to put some of these guys out of business, but you smile, and put on your “oh I love it” face anyway…

Well, fresh from CES, Parrot just unveiled the DIA, the first digital photo frame that you really will be happy to receive. The DIA is less like an old digital frame and more like a movie screen that has a picture projected upon it.The DIA’s LCD display is separate from it’s backlight, which gives your favorite photos a beautiful, designer friendly, transparent effect, very different from the digital frames of, well, just yesterday.
